We work with intended parent(s) who are choosing Surrogacy as a way to build their family. We work with hopeful parents that have struggled with infertility, are single, are in a same-sex relationship or have a health concern that prevents them from safely carrying their child.
Surrogate compensation varies based on several factors, including location, experience, and specific arrangements with intended parents or surrogacy agencies. On average, surrogate base compensation can range from $40,000 to $50,000 for a first time surrogate, with additional allowances for medical and other expenses related to the pregnancy. Experienced surrogates or those willing to undergo certain procedures may receive higher compensation. At MDC Surrogacy, we allow the surrogate to set her own compensation and provide feedback on her benefit package - and we are happy to provide guidnace given their specific circumstances.
It's important to note that the overall financial package may include base compensation, medical expenses, maternity clothing allowance, travel expenses, and other miscellaneous costs. The specific details of compensation will be outlined in the surrogacy agreement.
This depends on your comfort level. Most intended parents and surrogates enjoy regular communication throughout the pregnancy. If you have a specific request around communication during or after delivery, we will keep your preferences in mind when finding a potential match. While each relationship develops naturally, it is important that all parties are on the same page from the start.
Our team will interview both the surrogate and intended parent(s) to understand their preferences on the surrogacy: how many embryos will be transferred, thoughts on reduction/ termination, communication throughout pregnancy, etc. When we have an intended parent that shares your philosophies, you will have a chance to review the Intended Parents profile and have a video match call to help you determine if this feels like the right fit for your journey.
There are a few different stages to your journey. The initial application stage can take several weeks as we complete your online application and obtain your prior medical records. Once we have a potential match, the medical screening and legal process can easily take 2-3 months before you are cleared for embryo transfer. Most journeys take approximately 14-18 months.
Requirements to become a surrogate can vary slightly depending on the agency/ clinic. Here's a general overview of common criteria:
Age: Surrogates typically need to be between 21 and 40 years old. This age range ensures both physical and emotional maturity.
Health: Surrogates should be in good physical and mental health. A thorough medical examination, including tests for infectious diseases, is usually required.
Prior Pregnancies: Many agencies prefer surrogates who have had at least one successful, complication-free pregnancy and delivery.
No High-Risk Pregnancies: Surrogates should not have a history of complications during pregnancies, such as preterm births or gestational diabetes.
Body Mass Index (BMI): A healthy BMI (<30) is often a requirement. This helps ensure the safety of both the surrogate and the baby during the pregnancy.
Non-Smoker and Non-Drug User: Surrogates are typically required to be non-smokers and not use recreational drugs. Some clinics may also test for these substances during the screening process.
Stable Lifestyle: Surrogates should have a stable living situation and a supportive environment. This includes financial stability and emotional support from family or friends.
No Criminal History: A thorough background check is usually conducted to ensure the surrogate has no criminal history.
Willingness to Follow Protocols: Surrogates must be willing to adhere to medical protocols, attend regular check-ups, and follow the guidelines provided by the fertility clinic.
Emotional Stability: Surrogacy can be emotionally challenging, so surrogates should be emotionally stable, able to handle stress, and have a strong support system.
Legal Eligibility: Surrogates must be legally eligible to enter into a surrogacy agreement. This may include being a legal resident or citizen of the country where the surrogacy is taking place.
These requirements aim to ensure the safety and well-being of both the surrogate and the intended parents throughout the surrogacy journey.
